Obituary

Loving Son, Brother, Nephew, Cousin. July 25,1990 – February 23, 2024. Thomas Gerard Connell, Jr. of Portland, Maine passed away unexpectedly on February 23. He was the loving son of Thomas and Michele Connell. Predeceased by his beloved brother Ryan Michael Connell. Tommy was raised in Westford, MA and Hollis, NH. He graduated from Hollis Brookline high school where he played basketball, golf and tennis. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing at Johnson & Wales University. He was a communicant of St. Catherine of Alexandria Church in Westford. Tommy had a warm, welcoming, beautiful smile – he had a presence. He had a terrific sense of humor, always enjoying a funny story or joke with a good strong laugh and a simultaneous clap of his hands. He was always a fan of the underdog and he had a special place in his heart for those who were less fortunate than most. Tommy was looked up to by all of his cousins, something that he was very proud of. He brought light and laughter to any room.

Tommy was a huge sports fan; he especially loved the Boston Celtics. He enjoyed following the stock market, podcasts regarding politics and food, especially where to find the best pizza. He had a passion for cooking, restaurants, and had an adventurous palate.

Like all of us, Tommy suffered greatly with the sudden loss of Ryan, his roommate and best friend. Tommy was taken from all of us far too early. He is at peace with his little brother. God rest his soul.

Tommy will be missed forever. In addition to his parents, he will be dearly missed by his loving step-mother, Therese Connell, step-father Joe McElwain, step-brother Zach, and all of his aunts, uncles and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his grandparents, John and Donna Connell, and Michael and Jeanette Lucas. A private funeral will be held Thursday February 29. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tommy’s memory may be made to Special Olympics Maine, 525 Main St, Suite D, South Portland, Maine, 04106.
