Morse Bayliss founded as Morse Funeral Home was established in 1939 by Robert Morse. With his personal touches, attention to detail, and getting to know the families personally, quickly made the Morse Funeral Home one of the largest funeral homes in Lowell.
In 1959, Walter “Wally” Bayliss, Jr. joined Bob Morse’s staff. Later, Wally purchased the funeral home from Bob renaming it the Morse Bayliss Funeral Home. Wally successfully ran the business with his wife Ingrid for over 30 years. Wally continued to play a vital, active role in the business until his untimely passing in 2016. His long and distinguished service to grieving families and the local community – especially Lowell’s veterans – continue to represent the principles and traditions by which Morse-Bayliss Funeral Home operates today.
Frederick W. Healy of Westford a fourth-generation Funeral Director and Certified Preplanning Consultant with over 45 years of funeral service experience, serving the families came to work for Wally in 2001. Like Wally purchasing the business from Bob, Fred purchased the Morse Bayliss Funeral Home in 2009 from Wally. Prior to taking ownership of Morse-Bayliss in 2009, Fred owned and operated J. A. Healy Sons Funeral Home in Westford.
In January 2023 Fred joined together with James “Jim” Dolan II to pool resources to better serve the families of Lowell. Jim continues to successfully own and operate the Morse Bayliss Funeral Home.
Some of the success of Morse Bayliss Funeral Home belongs to the fact that Morse Bayliss Funeral Home’s primary focus is to serve the diverse community which is comprised of diverse religions, beliefs and philosophies. The fourth generation at Morse Bayliss Funeral Home continues to serve the ever-changing diverse community of the Greater Lowell Area in which Bob Morse, Wally Bayliss, and Fred Healy served with respect since 1939.
The future of the Morse Bayliss Funeral Home is secure; as fifth generation, Andrew Dolan, became a licensed funeral director in July 2020. Andrew is a graduate of Chelmsford High School with the Class of 2017, completed an Associate Degree in Mortuary Science from Commonwealth Institute of Houston, TX, and is a graduate of UMass Amherst Isenberg School of Business with a Bachelor in Science in Management.
