Obituary

Robert M. Robertson Sr, 91, of Lowell, MA died Tuesday, January 06, 2026 after a brief illness. Robert (Bob) Robertson was the husband of his late wife Beverly (Foster) Robertson.

Born January 15, 1934, in Lowell, Robert was the son of the late Richard and Ethel Robertson.  Robert was raised and educated in Lowell.

Robert enlisted in the Navy in March of 1952. He was a proud 8-year Veteran who served during the Korean War.  While in the Navy he served on the USS Canisteo and USS Preston.  In March of 1960 he resigned from the Navy receiving an Honorable Discharge. You could always pick Bob out in a crowd proudly wearing a baseball cap displaying his ship’s logo. Bob met the love of his life, Beverly, prior to joining the Navy.  They were married in November 1955 while Robert was still enlisted in the service of the Navy. They rented a small apartment on Hale St in Lowell where they started their family with sons Robert Jr. and Dennis.

From there Robert and Beverly bought their first home in a Chelmsford, MA.  They added to their family with the birth of their daughter Doreen.  They eventually moved to Lowell where they had their youngest daughter, Gayle Marie.  They resided on Westford St. thereafter since 1971.

Robert made sure that this home had a big enough yard for his passion for gardening.  Beverly could always count on supplementing rising food costs with fresh vegetables from the ever-present garden that Robert tended to tirelessly.  Robert was also able to beat rising energy costs by installing wood burning stoves to heat the home during cold winter months.

Robert spent the bulk of his employment as a moulder for an iron works foundry. An extremely physical and dangerous job but Robert embraced the responsibility to financially support his family. After 30 years in this profession Robert became employed at the US Postal Service where he worked until he retired.

Robert is survived by his four children, Robert and his wife, Margaret Robertson Jr. of North Reading, Dennis D. Robertson of Merrimack NH,  Doreen and her husband, Michael Vaughan of Lowell, and Gayle Marie Erickson of Lowell; a brother, Richard and his wife, Lillian Robertson Jr. of Lowell, a sister, Ruth and her husband, Edward Makarewicz of Lowell;  eight grandchildren, Montana, Stone, Cheyenne, and Sierra Robertson, Michael and Tyler Vaughan and Jessica and Hannah Erickson; three great grandchildren; Ace and Casher Robertson, and Maggie Vaughan as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Norman, Leon, Irvin, and Eugene Robertson and Elizabeth Anderson.
