Obituary

Marion A. Kowalski, 93, of Charlton, MA died Saturday, February 17, 2024 at The Overlook Masonic Health Center in Charlton, MA.

She was married to the late Walter S. Kowalski who died on February 29, 2008. Marion and Walter settled in Jensen Beach, FL.

Born in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late John and Jean (Johnstone) Dick.

She attended grade school in Jamaica Plain and Weston, then Junior High and High School in Waltham, MA graduating with the class of 1948.

Marion worked part-time at Raytheon when her daughter was young, and at Star Market.  She went on to work full-time at Polaroid and then worked for 10 years as a Supervisor in the Personnel Department of Utica Mutual Insurance, Co. in Burlington, MA until her retirement in 1978.

Marion was a member of the Eastern Star, Waltham, MA; Treasurer of the Elementary School on Lincoln Street in Waltham, MA; leader of Brownie’s and Girl Scouts in Waltham, MA; member of Boston Daughters of the Nile; President of the Martinet’s; Woman’s Auxiliary of the Stuart, FL Shrine Club. She was also an officer in the Daughters of the Nile in Jupiter, FL.  She and her husband Walter were quite active in the West Palm Beach Shrine Club affairs and helped with the building of the Polish American Social Club in Port St. Lucie, FL.  Marion was President of the Episcopal Church Women at All Saints Episcopal Church in Jensen Beach, and then later at the Church of the Advent Episcopal Church in Palm City, FL when they moved there in 1994. Marion was quite active at the office and various activities in the Meadows Gated Community in Palm City, FL until they moved to Torrington, CT in 2002. In 2006 Marion and her husband moved into the Masonic Overlook Life Care Community in Charlton, MA.

Marion is survived by her daughter Linda Gallagher of Torrington, CT; her granddaughter Elizabeth Sheahan and her husband Michael of Marlboro, MA; her great-grandchildren Breanna Sheahan and Chelsea Sheahan of Marlboro, MA; her granddaughter Theresa Marin and her husband Scott of Torrington, CT; great-grandchildren Amanda Sullivan and her husband Warren of Torrington, CT; her great-greatgrandchildren Remus Sullivan, Orion Sullivan, Linkin Sullivan of Torrington, CT; her great-grandchild Jenna Cadarr and her husband Chris, great-great-grandchildren Edward Cadarr, Aria Cadarr, Silas Cadarr of Wisconsin Army Base; her granddaughter Kimberly Travis of Billerica, MA; her great-grandchild Jessica Hart and her husband Hart, McKenna Hart, Koda Hart, Salem Hart of Torrington, CT; her great-grandchild Kevin Hopkins of Torrington, CT; her great-grandchildren Alyshia Gallagher and great-great-grandchild Liam Jenson of Upton CT; great-grandchild; her great-grandchildren Corey Travis of Jacksonville, FL, Kately Ryan and her husband Darin of Rhode Island; her great-great-children Deacon Ryan, Donavan Ryan, and Hazel Ryan of Rhode Island.

Marion is also survived by her 3 stepdaughters Charlotte Stankiewicz of Dracut, MA, Barbara Bourgeois and her husband Robert Bourgeois Sr. of Micco, FL; step grand-children Robert Bourgeois of NH and Jeff Bourgeois of FL; and Shirley Kourey of Dracut, MA, step-grandchildren Chris Kourey, spouse, Erin Palmer, step-great granddaughter Sophie Palmer of Acton, MA and John Gallagher, spouse of Mark R. Kourey Ocean Grove, NJ.

She is pre-deceased by her first husband, John E. Mackenzie, Jr. and her step-grandson Mark R. Kourey.

FUNERAL NOTICE

At Mrs. Kowalski’s request, there will be no calling hours. Funeral Friday, April 12, 2024 at 11AM at St. Casimir’s Parish PNCC, 268 Lakeview Avenue, Lowell, MA.   Burial in St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Pelham, NH.  Memorials may be made in her name to Shriners Hospital for Children – Boston www.shrinerschildrens.org/en/locations/boston  or to St. Casimir’s Parish Cemetery Fund, 268 Lakeview Ave., Lowell, MA 01850.
