Larry, 83, of Dracut, MA, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at his home.
In 1973 he married the late Diana (Wilkins) Nielsen. Born in Lowell, MA, he was the beloved son of the late Lawrence P. Nielsen and Jennie M. (Guys) Nielsen.
Larry graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1959. From there he began his long career as a Bricklayer, with the The International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC), where he perfected his craft for over 40 years until retirement. Larry was also employed as a Bartender at VFW Post 662 in Lowell for many decades, where you’d find him on weekend nights happily serving the area’s partygoers. Larry was also a Little League baseball coach and board member at Callery Park in Lowell through the late 1980s. He was devoted to providing for his family and being present in their lives.
Larry was a member of Chelmsford Elks and a communicant of St Margaret’s Church in Lowell. He also enjoyed playing golf, poker, cribbage, and billiards. He always looked forward to his summer trips with the guys, where he could play golf and gamble at the same location! Larry is probably best known for his laid back, gentle demeanor, always sporting a smile and fun to be around. He will be greatly missed by those who know and love him.
He is survived by his daughters, Christine (Scott) Schuit of Union Grove, WI and Darlene (Daniel) Laferriere of Lowell, MA, and his son, Derek (Erica) Nielsen of Hudson, NH; his grandchildren, Cyrena Nielsen, Alana Nielsen, Shayleigh Nielsen, Evan Nielsen and Bria Lang; his great-grandchildren, Isla, Elodie and Winter; his sisters, Carol Prescott of Chelmsford, MA, Doreen Regan of Lowell, MA and Michelle Laurencio of Nashua, NH, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Lorna Driscoll and Walter “Wicky” Nielsen.

My so sweet Uncle Larry .. Big in statue but a very humble & loving heart! My fondest memories will forever be of him driving us around in the back of his truck! Who needed seatbelts back then – we’re still here to talk about it 💕. Although physically gone, I know in my heart that he is at peace with our Lord & Savior and my #1 Auntie .. his soul mate. I love you my 3 blessed cousins and truly pray that you feel the Holy Spirit comforting you & holding you up during this time! 😘💕🙌
