Obituary

Josephine Helen Wrobel, 97, of Lowell, MA, died February 5, 2023. She was the wife of the late John F. Wrobel with whom she had shared 55 years of marriage.

She was born in Lowell, March, 19, 1925, a member of the Greatest Generation. She was the daughter of Polish immigrants the late Joseph W. and Mary M. (Sapa) Zygadlo.

Josie was educated in the Lowell Public Schools graduating from Lowell High School class of 1942. After high school, she immediately joined the World War II effort as a “Rosie the Riveter” welder at Fort Devens, serving until the end of the war. In the following years, Josie had many different jobs. She was industrious and exhibited a strong work ethic. She retired as a beloved daycare teacher with CTI Head Start of Lowell.

Josie was an ardent and active member of St Casimir’s Church. She served on numerous parish committees and held office in many sodalities. She was a member of the Frederick Chopin Choir, TOP, MK Society, and the Blessed Sacrament Sodality. She was proud of her Polish heritage and was a member of Dom Polski.

Josie enjoyed daily walking, reading, solving crossword puzzles, family dinners, theme parties and she had the wanderlust for travel. She loved all animals but was especially fond of her cats.

Josie is survived by her two daughters JoAnn Menzia and Phyllis Hunt and her husband Robert all of Lowell; four granddaughters Tanya Poleschner (Carl), Erica Pelletier (Richard), Johanna Ford-Hunt (Daniel), Magdalena Mason (Michael) and a grand daughter by choice Aimee Tillman; great-grand children Ian and Emma Ford-Hunt, Heath Pelletier, and Patrick Mason. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom she treasured.

In addition to her husband, Josie is predeceased by her son-in-law Paul Menzia, and three brothers Frank, Edwin, and Walter Zygadlo and a sister Anna Couture.

Friends will be received at the MORSE-BAYLISS FUNERAL HOME, 122 Princeton Boulevard, Lowell, on Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 4 to 7 PM. Her Funeral Service will be held at St. Casimir’s Church, 268 Lakeview Avenue, Lowell 01850, on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Interment in St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Pelham, NH.
