Loving Brother and Uncle

Joseph A. Pilato, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died January 28, 2022 at Lowell General Hospital, after a brief illness, aged 83 years.

Born in Lowell on February 13, 1938, he was a son of the late Frederick J. Sr. and Mary H. (DeCoursey) Pilato. He received his elementary education at St. Peter’s School and attended Lowell Vocational School.

He worked in the shoe shop “Las Boy” for a short time, and then entered the construction field. Joseph joined the Union Local #429, and as a laborer, worked for various contractors throughout the Merrimack Valley for over 40 years, retiring in 1994.

Joe lived independently through his retired years. He enjoyed going to lunch with his dear friend Dolly and spending time on the phone talking with his sister Gail. He also enjoyed spending time with his niece Mary Silva and her daughter Julia, who were there to take care of him in his final days.

Mr. Pilato is survived by two brothers, Paul A. Pilato Sr. of Lowell, and Frederick J. Pilato Jr. of North Carolina, a sister, Gail Leedberg and her husband Melvin Sr., and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Irene Gowett and Theresa Coates, and brother-in-law of the late Dolores McGillicuddy, Shirley Pilato, Andy Gowett Sr., and Carl Coates Sr.

Friends will be received at the MORSE-BAYLISS Funeral Home, 122 Princeton Blvd., Lowell, on Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM.
