Obituary

Encarnacao “Connie” Pereira, 88, of Lowell, MA, died March 14, 2026, at Palm Springs Post Acute in Chelmsford, MA, after a period of declining health.

Born in Madeira, Portugal, she was the beloved daughter of the late Antonio and Louisa (Agrella) Santos. While living in Madeira, Connie was an exceptional embroidery artist. She sold her work to members of the local community, which was how she made a living.

She was the beloved wife of the late Jose M. Pereira, who passed away in 1990.

Connie grew up facing many struggles in Portugal, and through those hardships she learned the value of hard work and family. She would do anything to provide for her children, even going hungry some nights to ensure her beloved children were fed and had a roof over their heads.

In 1966, Connie made the difficult decision to pack up and move her entire family to the United States so they could have a better life. They immediately settled in Lowell, MA, where she remained for the rest of her life.

Connie was an active communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Lowell. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking large, extravagant meals for her friends and family and spending time with her beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Connie is survived by her loving children: Jose L. Pereira of Lowell, MA; George Pereira and his wife Christina of Bradford, MA; Anthony Pereira of Lowell, MA; and her loving daughters Mary Da Rosa and her husband George Da Silva of San Jose, CA; Natividade Silva and her husband Rey Molina of Lowell, MA; and Laura Pereira of Lowell, MA. She is also survived by her sister Natividade S. Teixeira of Nashua, NH, as well as 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was the loving mother of the late Angelina Pereira and the sister of the late Manuel Santos, Maria Santos, and Maria Rodrigues, and sister-in-law of the late John “Tex” Teixeira.
