Carol E. Inglis, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Lowell General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She had been in declining health for some time but remained strong in spirit until the end.
Born and raised in the house she would call home for her entire life, Carol was the beloved daughter of the late Wilfred and Vivian (James) Ouellette.
Carol’s life was marked by devotion and love. She was married to her late husband, John P. Inglis, for 61 years. Together, they built a family and shared countless memories until John’s passing on January 2, 2020. Carol’s love for her family was boundless, and she found her greatest joy in the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her warmth, laughter, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Carol graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1956. She was known for her kind and caring nature, and she had a special place in her heart for animals. Even in her later years, Carol could often be found feeding the neighborhood cats, and one stray in particular found a permanent home in her heart and her house.
Carol’s legacy lives on through her three children: Robert “Bob” Inglis and his companion Sue Chadsey of Tyngsboro, MA; John Inglis and his companion Laura Lake of Sandown, NH; and Heather Maguire and her husband Craig of Kingston, NH. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, her daughter in law Susan Inglis and her partner Vyto, her sister-in-law Virginia Powers and many lifelong friends. Her love, generosity, and spirit touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Carol was the sister to the late, Wilfred Ouellette and Gail Gawrys and the mother-in-law to the late Victoria (Dumas) Inglis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Carol’s honor on Thursday, April 9, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by Mass at 11:00 AM at The Immaculate Conception Church, 144 E Merrimack St, Lowell, MA 01852. Burial will take place at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Carols name can be made to your local MSCPA or The American Cancer Society. Arrangements are entrusted to the Morse-Bayliss Funeral Home, 122 Princeton Boulevard, Lowell, MA 01851. Auntie Carol was one of the best people I know. She was very kind and had a big impact on my life when I was growing up. She showed me how a loving family operated and always welcomed me and my siblings into her home. We spent many holidays together. She was a devoted sister to my mother, Gail. Auntie Carol always loved animals and was a good example of how to treat them. She will be very missed and I am certain she was greeted by many who loved her on the other side.

So sorry to hear of Carol’s passing. Carol and John wee lifelong neighbors of my cousin, Bill Bray. They were with him when he passed. Bill always called Carol “St Francis of Assisi” (the patron Saint of animals). Carol stayed in touch with me, always inquiring about my only grandchild. I looked forward to our telephone conversations. I will miss her kind heart and loving spirit.

So sorry to hear about Carols passing. Having her and John as neighbors was a pleasure and I will never forget her passion for animals.
