Barbara Elaine Tharpe, age 69, of Lowell, MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones at home. She was born in Jasper, Alabama, the cherished daughter of Thomas Borom and Annie Hagler.

Barbara was united in marriage to the late Julius Tharpe in April 2014, and their love endured until his passing. She graduated from Dora High School in Sumiton, AL, with the Class of 1972.

Having retired as a civilian from Hanscom US Air Force Base in Bedford, MA, Barbara had a fulfilling career that spanned many years. Her commitment and hard work left a lasting impact on those she worked with, earning her the respect and admiration of colleagues.

A devout member of Bethel AME Church in Lowell, Barbara found solace and community in her faith. Her devotion to her spiritual life was evident in the warmth and kindness she extended to others.

Barbara was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a doting grandmother. Family was the cornerstone of her life, and she relished every moment spent with her grandchildren. Her nurturing spirit and unconditional love created a strong bond that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to be part of her family.

Beside hr beloved mother Annie Holmes, Barbara is survived by her son Richard Crockett and his wife Kerri of Columbia, SC, her daughter Leona Crockett of Lowell, MA; her brothers James Borom, Charles Hagler, Barry Hagler, and Christopher Holmes, all of Lowell, MA; her sisters Julia Hagler and Patricia Semprit and her husband, all of Lowell, MA; seven grandchildren Kwame, Shayla, Kailey, Kyndra, Marquis and his wife Jacaira, Maurice, and Tito; two great-grandchildren Landon and Emma; and numerous nieces, nephews and various grand nieces and nephews that she had special bonds with all of them.

She was the former wife of the late Leroy Crockett.

Barbara Elaine Tharpe will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace.

Barbara’s visiting hours will be Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 4 to 8PM at MORSE-BAYLISS FUNERAL HOME, 122 PRINCETON BLVD, LOWELL, MA.     I am so sad to hear this terrible news I worked with Barbara for many years at Hanscom Air Force Base. I have not seen her since she retired.
