David Nelson Lake, of Nashua, NH, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua from devastating injuries from a fall almost 5 years ago. He passed holding his wife’s hand with his son by his side.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, David was the son of the late Cliffton and Ruby (Belanger) Lake. He grew up in Lowell, where he attended local schools and graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1968. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Lowell.
David was married to the love of his life and his rock, Joanne (Silvestro) Lake for 32 years. He worked for several banking institutions throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire for more than 20 years before finishing his career at the Internal Revenue Service, where he proudly served for 22 years.
In retirement, David enjoyed watching sports—especially football and hockey—hiking in the White Mountains, and walking his beloved dog, Mookie. He was also an avid reader of historical fiction and adventure novels.
Five years ago, David suffered a life-changing injury that left him paralyzed from mid chest down. Despite this challenge, he remained a fighter—never losing his sharp sense of humor, warmth, or compassion for others.
In addition to his devoted wife Joanne, David is survived by his son, Alexander Lake of Nashua, NH, as well as countless friends who will miss him dearly. The family wishes to acknowledge the love and support of Rick Finch, Chuck Lapham, Nelson and Cheryl Belanger, David Lambert, J and Christine Sheehan, and the caring team at Tufts Home Health Nursing.
He was predeceased by his brother, the late Cliffton Lake.
