Chhrech Tuy, Cherished Father and Grandfather, Passes Away at 92

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for his remarkable life, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, Chhrech Tuy, on August 18, 2024, at the age of 92. Surrounded by his loving family, he left this world as gently as he lived.

Born on December 19, 1931, in Battambang, Cambodia, Chhrech’s life was a testament to courage and resilience. In 1979, he made the brave decision to escape the chaos of the Khmer Rouge, bringing his family to Thailand in search of safety and a new beginning. His journey continued when he immigrated to the United States in 1984, first finding a home in Wisconsin before finally settling in Massachusetts in 1989.

Chhrech’s life was enriched by simple joys and deep passions. He had a great love for Thai and Khmer boxing and found delight in wrestling, with his earliest exposure to the sport coming through the iconic Hulk Hogan. This enthusiasm for wrestling brought him much enjoyment in his later years. Chhrech also found solace and happiness in long walks with friends and his steadfast commitment to his Buddhist faith.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Ruom Cheng, whose love was his guiding light, and his treasured grandson, Phon Tuy.

Chhrech leaves behind a legacy of love through his children: Pheap, Phoeub (Runn), Chandoeun, Samantha, and Jeannie (James). He is also survived by his son, Kloeung (Melissa), and his numerous grandchildren: Jeannet (Daniel), Janna, Amanda, Sophy (Justin), Sophorn, Lena, Alicia, and Josephine, as well as grandsons Peter, Randy, Vantha, Alex, Alvin, and Allen. His great-grandchildren, Elonnie, Ellianna, Elyhi, Elliot, and Makara, also carry forward his memory.

We invite family and friends to join us in celebrating Chhrech’s extraordinary life on Friday, August 30th, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at The Glory Buddhist Temple on 24 Cambridge St, Lowell, MA.  The cremation services will follow on Saturday, August 31st, 2024 at 8:00 AM at Merrimack Cremation Service on 10 Henry Clay Dr, Merrimack, NH.

Let us gather to honor the man whose love and warmth touched us all, and whose memory will forever be cherished in our hearts.
