Obituary

Bernard Gerald “Gerry” Chabot

Loving Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend

Gerald “Gerry” Chabot, 84, of Tewksbury, MA, died peacefully April 20, 2026 at Lawrence General Hospital, of cancer, a disease that never shook his indomitable spirit and zest for life.

Born on January 26, 1942 in Concord, NH, he was the son of the late Oliver A. and Margaret J. (Ward) Chabot. Raised in the Highlands of Lowell, he received his early education at St. Margaret Grammar School and graduated from Keith Academy with the Class of 1959. He furthered his education at St. John’s Seminary, earning a degree in Philosophy. He entered the Priesthood in 1967. When his beloved mother’s health declined in the early 1980s, he devoted himself to her care in their Sayles St. home until her passing in 2004.

Gerry had an artistic nature, and a remarkably green thumb. He opened his first shop, Indoor Gardens, in 1976. He also worked at several local florists. For many years, he was a proud designer at Mahoney’s Garden Center, building lasting relationships with customers who returned to him season after season.

Whether a casual birthday party or an elegant wedding, Gerry’s lovingly crafted flower arrangements made every occasion truly special. He was also a fabulous cook and loved to prepare meals for family and friends. His savory béchamel lasagna was a perennial crowd pleaser, and his delicious Powder Puff cake showcased his culinary artistry. Professionally, he worked as head Chef at the former Ciao Italian Restaurant in Acton.

Gerry loved the ocean and Hampton Beach was his favorite spot growing up. He taught many a niece and nephew to body surf.  Just a few years ago, he was still carrying on that tradition, teaching his grand-nieces and nephews to do the same at Wells Beach.

He loved to dance, and at every celebration would cut a rug with anyone he could coax onto the dance floor. He was always at the head of the conga line at every wedding.

Of all the things we will remember Gerry for over the years, nothing shines brighter than the warmth of his kindness, the gift of his friendship, and the joy of his personality. Young at heart to the very end, he was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by so many.

He is survived by a devoted sister, Marrianne Ludvino of Tewksbury, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was the brother of the late Kathleen McWha and Judith Monahan, and brother-in-law of the late Dennis Ludvino and John Monahan.

Visitation will be held at the Morse-Bayliss Funeral Home, 122 Princeton Blvd., Lowell, on Monday, May 11, 2026 from 10 to 10:45 AM, followed by his memorial service at the funeral home at 11 AM. Burial will be private. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions in his name to the Lowell General Cancer Center. When giving please specify Cancer Center.
