Somphet “Eddy” Saysongkham, 56, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
Born in Vientiane, Laos, Eddy was the beloved son of Xab Saysongkham and the late Khamseng Saysongkham. Eddy moved to the United States in 1981, where he and his family settled in Lowell, Massachusetts. He was a frequent visitor of Wat Lao Mixayaram of New England in Lowell.
Eddy was a one-of-a-kind person with a personality that was truly his own. Many people knew him by different names—Edward, Eddy, or “E.T.” To those who knew him well, he was funny, goofy, playful, and sometimes wonderfully annoying. His laugh was unforgettable, and his sense of humor could make people smile even when they weren’t expecting it.
Eddy had a good heart and cared deeply about the people around him. He loved spending time with his family, goofing around, attending family and friends’ barbecues, and, of course, eating and drinking. He enjoyed the simple moments of being surrounded by the people he loved.
Although Eddy had many nieces and nephews, he never acted like he was just their uncle. He treated them like friends, joked around with them, teased them, and made them laugh. They loved his goofy personality and his ability to make even ordinary moments memorable. To many of his nieces and nephews, he was not only an uncle but also a friend they could laugh and have fun with.
Eddy was loved by many and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and everyone who had the opportunity to know him. His unique personality, contagious laughter, goofy sense of humor, and good heart left a lasting impression on the people around him. There will never be another Eddy.
In addition to his mother and stepfather, Eddy is survived by his sister, Susan, and her husband, Vannak Saysomkham, of South Carolina; his nephew, Kalvin Saysongkham; his niece, Kalyana Saysongkham; and his many nieces, nephews, loving friends, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

Eddy’s services will be held on Thursday September 3, 2026, beginning at 8:00 a.m. at Morse-Bayliss Funeral Home, 122 Princeton Blvd., Lowell, MA.
