Obituary for David B. MacConnell

David B. MacConnell
David Brown MacConnell, of Chelmsford, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 1, 2018, aged 79 years.

He was born to the late Carl MacConnell and Dorothy Baker MacConnell on May 24, 1939. David grew up in Billerica, raised a family in nearby Lowell, and lived out his retirement years alongside his loving companion, Janet Salwa, in Chelmsford.

Two of David’s greatest passions were travel and reading, and he often combined the two. He spent much of his time cruising the Caribbean. His favorite island getaway was St. Maarten, where he and Janet vacationed every winter. In the summertime, he could be found watching the Lowell Spinners play baseball or enjoying “a few fingers of wine” while sitting oceanside in New Harbor, Maine. David was also a regular guest at the Tug boat Inn in Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

David is survived by Janet Salwa of Chelmsford; three children, Cynthia Smith of Somersworth, NH, Dennis MacConnell of Billerica, and Dan MacConnell of Billerica; two brothers, Carl “Skippy” MacConnell, Jr. and Peter MacConnell; one sister, Sue Dombrowski; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his oldest son, David MacConnell, Jr.

Friends are invited to remember and celebrate David’s life at the Morse-Bayliss Funeral Home, 122 Princeton Boulevard, Lowell, on Saturday, December 8, 2018, from 12 - 2 PM. Interment will be private.
