Obituary for Joyce Hamelin (Armitstead)

Joyce Hamelin (Armitstead)
Beloved wife, mother, naunie, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt

Joyce (Armitstead) Hamelin, 79, a longtime resident of Tyngsborough, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2018 at Lowell General Hospital, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul A. “Hams” Hamelin.

Born in Lowell, December 2, 1938, a daughter of the late Russell A. and Alice M. (Constantine) Armitstead. She attended Lowell High School.

For many years, Joyce was a devoted nurse’s aide at Northwood Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Lowell. She loved to care for her elderly patients, and they adored her in return.

A talented vocalist in her youth, she was highly sought after by local churches to sing at Sunday services. One of her most proud accomplishments was a record she made of a song named “Window Shopping for a Diamond Ring”. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Joyce was an avid, talented knitter, whose family and friends will cherish the many items she lovingly created over the years. She loved her home, and found peace and comfort in the beautiful nature surrounding it. She also enjoyed traveling the country with her husband. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by three sons, Russell W. Reid and his wife Joanne of Chelmsford, William L. Reid and his wife Mary of Zephyrhills, FL, and Gregory L. Reid and his wife Amy of Tyngsborough. Six grandchildren and their spouses; Crystal Rollins and her husband Justin, Amber McDuffie and her husband Timothy, Jennifer Keraghan and her husband Charles, Daniel Reid and his wife Rebecca, Paul Reid and his wife Laura, and Alycia Reid.
