Obituary for Virginia R. "Ginny" Kelty (Mello)

Virginia R. "Ginny" Kelty (Mello)
Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother

Virginia R. "Ginny" (Mello) Kelty, formerly a longtime resident of Westford, MA, and Hampton Beach, NH, died Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Nashoba Medical Center, after a brief illness, at the age of 92. She was the beloved wife of the late John P. “Red” Kelty Sr., with whom she had celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Born in Lowell, November 30, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Louis Mello and Dorothy Weber. Ginny received her early education in New York's Manhattan parochial school system, and graduated from Lowell High School with the Class of 1942.

On March 17th, 1944, she married John P. Kelty, who had just returned home from serving in the Marines in WWII. Virginia and John raised their six children in Westford. While raising her children, Virginia was an avid volunteer in the Westford community. Ginny was also active in St. John’s Evangelist Church as a CCD teacher and an admired member of the PTA at Country Day School and Notre Dame Academy.

For many years, she worked in the Westford public school system as a beloved Teacher's Aid.

"Vir-gin-i-a" cherished her children, 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to share childhood memories or to impart important life lessons upon those she met. Virginia had a wonderful joyful disposition, a beautiful smile, and was the epitome of distinction.

Music was Ginny's medicine. She loved to sing, but oh how she loved to dance! Always first on the dance floor, her hands and feet never stopped moving to the beat when music played. She loved to spend summers at Hampton Beach, but especially treasured time spent with family.

Her family would like to thank the doctors and the medical staff at Nashoba Valley Medical Center for the wonderful care she received.

She is survived by three daughters, Maureen Doherty and her husband Paul of York, ME, Patricia K. Auger and her husband Michael of Hollis, NH, and Kristine K. Pelletier and her husband Wayne of Dunstable, and two sons, John P. "Jeep" Kelty Jr. of Hampton Beach, NH, and Edmund B. Kelty and his wife Rosa of North Hampton, NH; a sister-in-law, Mary (Kelty) Ciccolo of Auburn, MA, several nieces, and one nephew. She was the mother of the late Kathy Lahey, and grandmother of the late Jared Lussier and Brandy Kelty.

It being her wish, funeral services were private. Memorial donations in her name may be made to Fisher House Boston, PO Box 230, South Walpole, MA 02071. Arrangements are in the care of Morse-Bayliss Funeral Home, 122 Princeton Boulevard, Lowell. Funeral Director, Frederick W. Healy.
