Obituary for Forrest E. Miller

Forrest E. Miller
Loving Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather
U.S. Navy World War II Veteran

Forrest E. Miller, a former longtime resident of Westford, MA, and Orlando, FL, died September 12, 2018, in Lowell, aged 94 years. He was the beloved husband of the late Roberta J. (Hollingworth) Miller. Since Roberta's death in 2012, Forrest fought dementia and a broken heart.

Born in Freeport, Maine, October 17, 1923, a son of the late Ellswood and Margaret (Brown) Miller. He received his early education in the Chelmsford school system and graduated from Chelmsford High School with the Class of 1942.

Mr. Miller enlisted in the U. S. Navy on May 17, 1943, serving as a Yeoman First Class during World War II. He was awarded the American Campaign and World War II Victory Medals, and was honorably discharged on March 27, 1946.

Forrest married Roberta on August 28, 1944, while on leave from the Navy. They raised their family in the Graniteville neighborhood of Westford, where they lived for 38 years.

Forrest and Roberta were long-standing members of the Graniteville United Methodist Church of Westford, serving in many capacities. After relocating to Orlando in 1989, they were active members of St. Luke's Methodist Church.

He owned and operated a Cushman's Bakery home delivery business for over 16 years. Like clockwork, Forrest delivered fresh baked goods to his faithful customers along sales "Route 355" six days a week, come rain or shine. Later, he worked at H & H Paper Company in Lowell, and Murray Printing Company in Westford.

Forrest proudly played first "sack" on Coach Knightly's Chelmsford High School baseball team, winning three consecutive championships in '40, '41 and '42. His biggest thrill was being part of the 1942 squad, which played their championship game in Fenway Park. He coached Little League Baseball in Westford for many years, and also enjoyed golfing, bowling, ice skating, and playing bridge with family and friends. Most of all, he loved to spend time with family, especially his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Scott and her husband Bruce of Kissimmee, FL, two sons, Gary Miller and his wife Kimberly of Tyngsboro, and Ronald Miller and his wife Susan of Hollis, NH; two sisters, Lorraine Gregoire and Arline Palmer, both of Chelmsford, and a brother, Larry Miller of Naples, FL. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

MILLER - In Lowell, September 12, 2018. Forrest E. Miller, formerly of Westford, MA and Orlando, FL, aged 94 years. Beloved husband of the late Roberta J. Miller. U. S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Friends will be received at the MORSE-BAYLISS Funeral Home, 122 Princeton Boulevard, Lowell, on Tuesday, October 9, from 10 to 11 AM, followed by his Funeral Service 11 AM. Interment with Military Honors in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford. Funeral Director, Frederick W. Healy.
