Barbara R.  Hughes (Daley)
Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother

Barbara R. (Daley) Hughes, a lifelong resident of Lowell, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2018, at the Merrimack Valley High Point Hospice House, Haverhill, with her loving family by her side, aged 76 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Hughes.

Born in Lowell May 24, 1942, she was the daughter of the late John and Martha (Townsend) Daley.

Barbara graduated from Lowell High School in 1960, and later that year, married Eddie at Calvary Baptist Church, where they remained active members for many years. More recently, she was a communicant of the Chelmsford Bible Church.

For over 47 years, she sang in both church choirs, and ran church dinners, fundraisers, and sunrise services. In her youth, she was a member of the Lowell Assembly #5 of Rainbow Girls, and later, was an active Amaranth member.

Barbara worked a wide variety of jobs, including employment at Caddell-Byers Insurance Company and as a beloved waitress at Good Thymes and Bob White’s restaurants.

She is survived by four children, Edward Hughes and his wife Carolyn, Sandra Volis and her husband Peter, Kevin Hughes and his wife Ami, all of Lowell, and Barbara Jean Henderson of Edgewood, MD. Twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, who will miss their Grammy. A brother, Jack Daley of Lowell, sisters-in-law Doris Hughes of Nashua, Alice Hughes of China, ME, Donna Wallace of Dracut, and Susanne Stokes and her husband John of Lowell; brothers-in-law Dennis Hughes of New Limerick ME, and Joseph Hughes and his wife Janet of Nashua; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, a cousin, Barbara McQuaide, a former daughter-in-law, Patty Hughes, and many extended family members. She will also be sadly missed by her friend Barbara Kessler, members of the “Gang”, and her neighbors at Father Norton Manor. She was the sister of the late Ronald Daley, and sister-in-law of the late Robert Hughes, Thomas Hughes, Kenneth Hughes, Claude Wallace, Pauline Hughes, and Patricia Hughes.

Friends will be received at the MORSE-BAYLISS Funeral Home, 122 Princeton Blvd., Lowell, on Tuesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Barbara’s Funeral Service will be held at the Chelmsford Bible Church, 128 Gorham St., Chelmsford, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. (Kindly meet at Church.) Interment in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell.
