Loving sister, aunt, and friend
Shirley Jean Smith, of Lowell, passed peacefully into the loving arms of her heavenly Father on August 5, 2018, after a long, hard-fought and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Ridgecrest, CA, June 11, 1955, a daughter of the late Charles P. and Theora B. (Wickstrom) Smith, she received her elementary and high school education in the Ridgecrest school system, and furthered her studies at the University of Eastern Nazarene College, Quincy, where she earned a B.A. in Education.
As a child growing up in the Mojave Desert, Shirley, with her loving heart, enjoyed being both a protective big sister and a fearless hunter of lizards. As an adult, she was a Kindergarten Teacher for many years and later, a Home Health Aid. She loved to garden and travel, especially on Mission Trips. She was involved in various church ministries, and also enjoyed teaching Sunday School and singing in the Choir.
Shirley was a very devout servant of our Lord Jesus Christ and will be sorely missed by those who knew her faithful and encouraging spirit.
Shirley is survived by her beloved sister, Bonnie Silva of Billerica, her beloved brother, John Smith of Nashua, NH, two beloved sisters-in-law, Diane Smith of Pepperell, and Margarita Smith of Nashua, and was the beloved aunt of John M. Smith, Jr., Nicholas Smith, Brendan Smith and Anica Smith, all of Pepperell. She also leaves her close friend and second mother, Eleanor Wheeler of Chelmsford, and her loving church families at the Community Christian Fellowship and Lowell Church of the Nazarene. She was the sister-in-law of the late James T. Silva.
