Obituary for Ralph Owen Jr.

Ralph Owen Jr.
Loving husband, father, and grandfather

Ralph E. “Gene” Owen, of Lowell, died peacefully May 28, 2018, in Chelmsford, after a brief illness, his family by his side, aged 86 years. He was the husband of Pauline (Moskovitz) Owen.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Ralph E. Sr. and Emily (Harting) Owen. He worked for the Pellon Corporation before his association with Lowell Automatic Transmission.

He was a dedicated volunteer who coached the Brunswick Junior Bowlers and umpired for Lowell Highlands Junior-Senior baseball. He was also a Cub Master for Pack 6 Cub Scouts at the former St. Joseph Lithuanian Church in Lowell.

Gene loved animals, motorcycles, and working out daily. He had a tenacity and zest for life, and his proudest accomplishment was his family. As a very proud grandfather, spending time with his grandchildren was what he most cherished. Gene will be best remembered for his unwavering dedication to Pauline, his beloved bride of 52 years. He will be dearly missed.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert L. Owen and his wife Debra of Lowell; four grandchildren, James R. Owen and his wife Mary of Manchester, NH, Jessica P. Cobleigh and her husband Ryan of Pepperell, and Kara El Owen and Kal El Owen, both of Lowell; three great-grandchildren, Paige E. Owen, Joseph R. Owen, and Lynelle Z. Cobleigh; several nieces and nephews, and a sister, Doris Frizzell of Lowell. He was the brother of the late Robert Colburn, Richard Owen, and Charles Owen.

It being his wish, funeral services were private. Memorial donations in his name may be made to the Lowell Humane Society, 951 Broadway St., Lowell, MA 01854. Arrangements in the care of the MORSE-BAYLISS FUNERAL HOME, 122 Princeton Blvd., Lowell. Funeral Director, Frederick W. Healy.
