Captain Edward A. “Eddie” Cossette, of Dunstable, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2017, at home, with loving family by his side, aged 68 years. He was the husband of the late Aniko Izay-Cossette, with whom he had shared 25 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2011.
Born in Lowell, May 7, 1949, the son of the late Raymond J. and Mary E. (Hassett) Cossette. He graduated from Keith Academy in Lowell with the Class of 1968. Later, he earned a Bachelor of Political Science Degree from St. Michael’s College, and a Master of Criminal Justice Degree from Anna Maria College.
Ed began his distinguished career with the Westford Police Department on May 7, 1974 as a Patrol Officer. He was promoted through the ranks over the years, achieving the title of Captain on July 10, 2000. He retired on September 1, 2006, after more than 32 years of dedicated service to the town of Westford.
He enjoyed vacationing in the Bahamas, sharing time with friends at his home in Pittsburgh, NH, and visiting family in Maine. Ed was an avid reader, had a love for teaching, and was fiercely competitive at cribbage and dominos.
He is survived by a stepson, Andras Maroti and his wife BJ of Yuma, AZ; a stepdaughter, Gloria Maroti Frazee and her husband John of East Hampton, NY; a sister, Ann Marie MacLeod of Lowell; a niece, Cate Swarce, her husband Peter, and their son Benjamin, all of Stoughton; numerous favorite cousins, and many close friends, especially John, John B., Ebbie, Mike, Tom, and Tommy. He also leaves his beloved dog, Sparky.
COSSETTE – It being his wish, there are no calling hours. Mr. Cossette’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 10, at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, North Main St., Westford, at 10:00 AM. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make donations to: Project Lifesaver International, and mail to the Westford Police Department, c/o Captain Neal, 53 Main St., Westford, MA 01886 (please note on check: ‘In Memory of Edward Cossette’), or, to the Lowell General Cancer Center, 294 Varnum Avenue, Lowell, MA 01854.
